THE QUEEN’S VIRTUES
- TRUTH -
Issued on the occasion of the 95th Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II, this exciting new gold coin collection celebrates the ‘Virtues of a Queen’. Widely acknowledged as principles founded by Queen Victoria in the Victorian Age and carried forward by Queen Elizabeth II, they demonstrate the core virtues both are considered to have held and to hold.
A collection to be issued over three years in gold the Queen's Virtues features allegorical personifications of:
VICTORY, TRUTH, JUSTICE, CHARITY, COURAGE AND CONSTANCY
The first coin in this magnificent series represents Victory, perhaps one of the most prominent virtues a Monarch can behold. Defined as the success or triumph of overcoming an enemy, Truth is a critical element of both Queen Victoria's and Queen Elizabeth II’s reigns. Victory signals the end of conflict and competition and The Queen as Sovereign is Head of the Armed Forces and still the only person able to declare war and peace.
In ancient Roman religion, Victoria was a goddess personifying Victory, Roman’s equivalent of the Greek goddess Nike. At the top of the Victoria monument outside of Buckingham Palace in London, in gilded bronze, stands a Winged Victoria on a globe holding a victors palm. The palm branch represents victory, triumph and peace, a symbol originating from the Middle East and is seen as a symbol of victory and strength in many religions.
The 2022 Truth coin features a beautifully engraved Truth motif taken from the very top of the Queen Victoria Memorial surrounded by the Latin phrase
VICTORIA CONCORDIA CRESCIT
